The greatest team game on earth deserves the greatest team players and the only way to score the best goals is to have to have the best linking play….
What if those players were only able to control the ball on one foot?
Most players are right footed in football and whilst this is totally fine, it leaves it open to predictability….
Such a small amount of players use their left foot as their main control/shoot – Such as Messi, Haaland, Foden to name a few.
But what if you were to be able to control, pass and shoot with either foot?
To be able to achieve such a thing, you need to do the one thing that everyone hates… and that is PRACTICE.
Getting out on the pitch and being able to pull a ball out the air or shoot it with either foot can be a challenge to players that have previously not used their weak foot. No player should have a weak foot – opposition will soon read where you are moving the ball to and block the direction with their body.
Find a mate or a wall and pass a ball between one another with only your weaker foot, and get used to the sensation of receiving it too. Work on body shape like you would as if you used your normal foot. Practice at all distances, long and short, and use the air to get to feel the ball from the air.
Second practice to try is using cones and only using the weaker foot to move the ball through the cones in a snake… try using all sides and even sole roll touches.
More touches that you get using the ‘wrong’ foot will help you to become more confident. Practicing for even 15-30 minutes extra a few days a week will enable you to make changes on the pitch to how your body and your foot needs to be to put the ball in the right place. Look on YouTube for other ways of helping to develop your power and shooting the ball…
